Durban Mountain Biker, Alan Hatherly has won the first elite world title of his career making him the first South African to win the Men Elite XCO UCI World Title at the 2024 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships.
Having taken bronze in the XCC, bronze at the Olympics and winning the most recent UCI World Cup round at Les Gets, France Alan proudly adds the 2024 XCO winners jersey to his 2018 Under-23 XCO and 2019 E-MTB cross-country (E-MTB) titles.
Speaking after the win Alan said, “I’m really emotional to be honest. I knew I had good legs but to be able to win like that is a dream come true.” Referencing the winning rainbow jersey he added, “Those bands are going to stay on my arm forever and I’m looking forward to wearing them for the rest of the season and next season for sure.”
Hatherly took the gold with a 22-second to second gap ahead of Victor Koretzky (France) and reigning champion Tom Pidcock (Great Britain) in Pal Arinsal in Andorra on Sunday.
